I Thess 5:8a – But let us, who are of this day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love. Faith is not only a shield it is a breastplate. That means faith will protect my heart and other vital organs. By using the tools God has given us through His Word they will enable us to not only move forward in hopes of receiving the things God has promised us, but faith also enables us to protect what we already have. So how much faith does it take to get the things we don’t have? How much of this faith do we need? Matthew 17:20b - verily I say unto you, have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, remove hence to yonder place, and it shall remove, and nothing shall be impossible unto you. Something as tiny as a grain of a mustard seed will remove a mountain that stands in front of us. In that single tiny seed, are many seeds, from which a tree grows, producing more seeds. One single seed is more than enough faith to move things, to change things around.

Where do we get this faith? The bible says God gave each man a measure of faith, Rom 12:3 For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think [of himself] more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.

Each of us “has a measure of faith” in us, if we will but believe. To believe means to have a firm conviction about something, accept as true. Faith is an indispensable element in our religion. Most of us want to please God. In order to please God we must believe who He is, according to Hebrews 11:6 – But without faith it is impossible to please him, for he that cometh to God must believe that He is and that He is a New order of them that diligently seek him.

Faith is not something we work up. Faith is already in us, for us to use to please God. We come to God by faith. Let’s see – if God put a measure of faith in us and with that small or large measure, what ever it is, it is more than enough to get us to God to believe who He says He is. It is enough to do the works that Jesus did and more. More than enough to hold off the fiery darts of the wicked one that would come to kill, steal and destroy. To quench means to put out or to extinguish. So by having a shield of faith in our hand, and wearing a breastplate of faith we are able to put out the enemy's fire and maneuver ourselves into a position of receiving. Believing, trusting, and having confidence in God is faith.

You are justified by faith, Romans 5:1 – therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
