There are times in our Christian walk we neglect to invite Jesus in on our plans. It’s not that we don’t know to include Him, it’s just that we either get in a hurry to start something or have somehow slipped away from the sound of His voice, or whatever reason. You noticed I said “our” plans. Our plans are not necessarily His plans for our lives. When we take off on our own, it can get us into a lot of trouble, then we find ourselves calling out, ‘Why God is this happening to me’? If we could but learn to wait upon Him and His direction for our lives, we certainly would find ourselves not only in a better place in our lives, but find ourselves in His will and plan for our lives. Too often we Christians seem to feel we know the path we are to be taking but have not taken the time to talk it over with Father.

The Holy Spirit was sent to walk along side of us – to lead us into all truth (John 16:13a “Howbeit when he the Spirit of truth is come he will guide you into all truth”). So would it be safe to say if we are not lead by the Spirit of truth, we could be leading ourselves on a false path?
What are some of the things that could happen to us if we fail to ‘let Jesus in on our plans’.
Let’s look at John 6:16 “that evening his disciples went down to the shore to wait for him. But as darkness fell and Jesus still hadn’t come back, they got into the boat and headed out across the lake toward Capernaum”.
Let’s stop right here, first the disciples went down to the shore to wait for Jesus. To wait means just that. Wait. Have you ever waited on someone? You know you were suppose to meet them and set out to do exactly that, wait. You wait and wait with no sign of the person you are waiting on. What happens? You begin to play different scenarios in your mind as to why they are not there to meet you. Maybe they changed their mind – maybe they got held up somewhere – maybe something happened to them and no one knows you are waiting - maybe they decided to go on without you. See how our minds go off on a rampage of different ideas? Secondly it got dark and Jesus still hadn’t shown up. Sometimes when we are waiting on the Lord it gets dark – it gets real dark. Things are not as clear in the dark as they are in the light. It gets kind of scary – we hear things in the night hours, things that unsettle us. Strange noises. Too often when we should be waiting we get spooked because of the darkness that surrounds us and we take off in the dark, without Jesus.

Let’s see what happened to the disciples when they got into the boat without Jesus and started off for Capernaum on their own. Let’s continue with John 6:18, “But soon a gale swept down upon them as they rowed, and the sea grew very rough”. If you neglect to let Jesus in on your plans and in your boat, you may find yourself in a gale, a storm and your seas may get very rough. This world can get very rough without Jesus.
